Art & Bloom Festival May 21 - May 23 The rhodos are in bloom!! Come visit us at the Art & Bloom Festival, May 21-23, at Kitty Coleman Woodland Gardens, a fabulous setting of art among spring flowers and rhododendrons just north of Comox on Vanouver Island. Over 70 artists and studios participate. Jodi and I will display original art, wood sculpture, shell rattles, prints and greeting cards in a central part of the garden. We'll both be demonstrating our work too. We'd love to see you there! For more info go to http://www.woodlandgardens.ca.
Both Jodi and I have lots of new work to show. I am working on a series of small watercolors for the Festival that reflect my love affair with the land and sea. It's been awhile since I've had smaller pieces for sale. Look for prices in the $145 to $275 range as well as some larger watercolors and acrylics at higher prices. New work will being added to the main website as an ongoing process. To see Dianne's new page click here. The painting to the right is an example of one of the smaller pieces, image size 6.5 x 10", matted or fully framed at 11 X 14". Below, a photo of me at work. There's been such nice days recently, I couldn't stay in the studio, so I set up on the back deck where Jodi usually carves and does sanding.

Jodi's new mask series, The Four Directions or/ The Elements, is well underway. They will go on display as a fully developed motif at our show on Quadra Island at the Grasshopper Gallery in late August. Watch for more details as the show gets closer.
The Mask Process. The alder wood mask below is the "Source" for the hide mask to right and below right. They were cast in wet hide directly from the wood mask which provided the mold. The source mask will be transformed into a central piece in the motif. Much work remains to be done and Jodi is loving the process from finding the wood to evolving the final presentation.

Students in the Studio. We've had more students in the studio these past few months. It's a sign I think that we're more at home in our space and ready to invite others to share it. Here's a look at some of these adventurous people and the work they're creating.
These lively sprites have discovered the secret of art making. Paper is just part of the process and not even necessary when hands can get involved.
Lyn worked with Jodi to create a shell rattle with hide and gems. The result... beautiful. To see more about shell rattles visit Jodi's craft page and the rattle store.
OOPS!! Forgot to mention our art demos at Batoche Gallery during the Annual Quadra Island Studio and Gallery Tour June 4 & 5. We'll be there most of both days with samples of our work and tools in hand. Watch as Dianne paints a watercolour and Jodi makes one of her famous rattles. Carving demo also on the agenda.
